BHUTAN

- Transitions in the Land of the Thunder Dragon

September 10 - November 26, 2006

There exists a different world. A world where things like the king is believed to be God and hand woven clothes are commonplace. Almost.

The Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan is situated like a wrapped parcel between India and Tibet. The country has for a long time tried to resist influences from outside, but globalisation has managed to sneak in between the untouched Himalayan Mountains. With a straight–backed pride the country tries to preserve its unique culture and maintain equilibrium with progress.

In this exhibition we meet the ordinary life and thoughts of people living in the country in change. The photographs and texts by the photographer Christina Sjögren and the journalist Ewa Jacobsson give perspective on development, democracy and things that many take for granted.
